01 / THE COMPANY BEHIND THE TECHNOLOGY
Emerging from a research research programme at the University of Johannesburg (South Africa) in 2010, aiQ Cognitive Technologies ('aiQ') has pursued a singular objective: applying the principles of neuromorphic computing to challenges that conventional computing approaches have struggled to resolve

02 / COMPUTING INSPIRED BY THE HUMAN MIND/BRAIN
Neuromorphic computing accurately simulates the human cognitive process - it is this capability that made it possible for research scientists from aiQ to develop a technology (code-named 'QiD') that is able to do what the human mind/brain is uniquely able to do: discover the identity of a person without knowing anything about the person

03 / PERSONAL IDENTITY
Personal identity is that innate part of each of us that makes us who we each are - uniquely different from anyone else
Personal identity is intrinsic to the person
It is not something that is conferred by a name, identity document, credential or biometric record that are merely ways of describing, representing or referring to someone; they do not constitute the person's identity - it is independent of anything used to identify a person

04 / CENTRAL TO IDENTIFICATION IS THE PERSON
To know who someone is, we rely on credentials—usernames, passwords, PINs, identity documents, passports and driver's licences—as proxies for establishing personal identity
Yet all these credentials have one thing in common: the person whose identity they seek to establish
Rather than identifying the person directly, conventional methods infer identity indirectly from credentials that can be stolen, forged, compromised or misused
Discovering the identity of the person directly, without relying on credentials, eliminates the need for these vulnerable proxies—and fundamentally transforms how personal identity is established…

QiD: What It Is…
Using a proprietary neuromorphic technology, QiD is able to discover a person's unique identity directly - independently of names, credentials, identity documents and without performing any form of biometric matching
And it does it on any computing device equipped with a +2MP camera: desktop, notebook, tablet or mobile ‘phone (even low-end ‘phones) inside a modern browser
QiD: What It Answers…
QiD answers three basic questions about the person…
And if required, supplementary services can be invoked upon demand:
IDCheck
QiD neuromorphically interprets the unique identity of the person and algorithmically expresses it as a large, complex, irreversible, de-identifiable 'identity checksum', reduced to a short 'QiD UUID' that persists for life
LiveCheck
QiD checks if the person is an actual/live human and not a high resolution/photorealistic image or 4K video or deep fake representation of the person…
RealCheck
QiD checks if the person is a real human and not some bot pretending to be a human
Physical Attributions
Upon request, QiD neuromorphically detects the physiognomic features attributed to the person: ・gender・age・beard・spectacles・eyes open/closed・face mask・mouth open/closed・moustache
Behavioural Characteristics
Upon request, QiD neuromorphically assesses the behavioural characteristics displayed by the person:・smile・happy・sad・angry・confused・disgusted・surpised・calm・stressed
Presence Monitor
Upon request, QiD monitors the continued presence of an authorised user for the duration of a host session following a successful IDCheck, LiveCheck and RealCheck
QiD: How It Works…
Using a proprietary algorithm, QiD neuromorphically interprets a person’s own unique identity which it expresses as a large, complex, irreversible, de-identifiable, ‘identity checksum’ that uniquely identifies the person for life, independently of credentials and without using any form of biometric
QiD then condenses the person’s own, unique Identity Checksum into a short/compact, unique 128-bit ‘QiD Identifier’ of 28 characters that persistently repeats with every identity check of the same person
